Tradition

When I was a kid our parents told us we could play hookey from school one day a school year to have a special day together. About age 19, when I was finally out of school my mom and I started our “hookey” day as an overnight shopping trip. We shopped and saw a play. The first one was The Nutcracker. I fell asleep. And woke up to my own snoring. And yet we went back the next year and the next and this year was our 20th year of this yearly tradition.

It’s the best thing my mom and I do together. No spouses no kids. My daughter has even started asking when she will get to go and she will only go when my mom can’t anymore. It’s a mother daughter only trip and I look forward to when Carley and I can continue this tradition.
